§ 7-42. Definitions; committee established.

  • (a)

    There is hereby established an animal services advisory committee. The purpose of the committee shall be to assist animal shelters located in the city to comply with V.T.C.A., Texas Health and Safety Code ch. 823.

    (b)

    The committee shall be composed of at least one licensed veterinarian, one county or municipal official, one person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter (operator), and one representative from an animal welfare organization. City council may appoint one additional member.

    (c)

    The members shall be appointed by the city council and shall serve two (2) year terms. The initial terms for the county or municipal official and operator shall be for three (3) years. The term limits for members are regulated by the relevant provisions of the City Charter and this Code, excepting that the animal shelter operator position is a mandatory appointment excluded from term limits.

    (d)

    Three (3) members shall constitute a quorum. The affirmative vote of the majority of a quorum present is required for any action of the committee.

    (e)

    The committee shall meet at least three (3) times a year.
