§ 33-19. Annual levy.

  • It shall be the duty of the city council at its last meeting in August of each year, or as soon thereafter as practicable, to levy such ad valorem taxes as may be necessary to cover the expenses of the city government for its next ensuing fiscal year. If the city council should fail or neglect to pass in any calendar year an ordinance levying ad valorem taxes for that year, said ordinance last passed for such purpose shall be considered in force, and the failure to pass such ordinance shall in no wise invalidate the collection of taxes.
