§ 30-234. Cross-Connection standards.

Latest version.
  • (a)

City of Galveston is adopting a mandatory cross-connection program, in compliance with chapter 341, subchapter C, of the Texas Health & Safety Code, and section 290 of the rules and regulation of Texas water systems governed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the 2012 International Plumbing Code. These state laws are a result of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

    (b)

Every source of contamination or possible contamination from any contaminant which originates from or is located at a residential or commercial establishment which is connected to the City of Galveston water supply or which provides water to the public shall be equipped with the protection required under the provisions of this article.

    (c)

These regulations apply to all new and existing plumbing for both all city of Galveston customers. There is no "grandfather" clause allowing existing hazardous connections to continue to exist without installation of the appropriate protective device. The protection of the public water supply from contamination can only be achieved if all potential sources are eliminated. The director of municipal utilities or designee shall determine if a connection is hazardous to the public water supply.
