§ 12-234. Service conductors.

  • (a)

    All service conductors shall be installed in rigid galvanized, rigid aluminum or P.V.C. Schedule 40 conduit.

    (b)

    Service entrance conductors for signboards and other advertising purposes may be two-wire No. 8 with a thirty (30) ampere disconnect if the connected load permits.

    (c)

    Where multiple meter enclosures are installed, the following shall be the minimum size conductors used between the service head and meter enclosures:

    Two or three gang enclosures ..... 3 No. 4 TW

    Four to six gang enclosures ..... 3 No. 2 TW

    Larger conductor sizes shall be used if required for the connected load when computed by section 220-3 of the National Electrical Code.

    (d)

    Not less than three (3) feet of each conductor shall be left at the service head for connection to service wire from the public service company's service drops.

    (e)

    Underground services, feeders and branch circuits may be installed in approved ducts or plastic conduit.

    (f)

    It shall be unlawful to run the portion of the service ahead of the meter cabinet through attic space.

    (g)

    P.V.C. service risers where installed on power company poles, must be Schedule 80 per Houston Lighting and Power Company's specifications, and all underground service entrance conductors shall be installed in an approved raceway.

    (h)

    Metallic service heads installed on P.V.C. Schedule 40 or 80 that are capable of becoming a conductor of electricity shall be grounded to the incoming neutral conductor of the service on the load side of the utility company's connection.
